This document is the Quality Manual of Donnybrook Timber Frames for Timber Frame Construction and Design services. It has been produced and is authorized by the undersigned to specify the Company’s Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety System and to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2000. FSC. PEFC. Green Dragon.
It is company policy that all engineered timber products and services supplied are to a uniform and consistent standard within the technical requirements of the relevant British Standard and to fully meet the order and specification requirements of our customers and to ensure that their expectations and needs are met.
The Company is committed to the continual improvement of the effectiveness of its quality management system. As part of its commitment to the continual improvement process it has established a framework for setting and reviewing quality objectives. These objectives include:1. Provide on time deliveries 2. Provide accurate product information and technical support 3. Comply with all statutory regulations 4. Have a positive input on the environment 5. Maintain stock levels to 65% of output 6. Reduce complaints by 5% per year
The Company’s senior management are responsible for ensuring that this policy is understood, implemented and maintained, all targets will be stated at the annual review meeting based on current performance and communicated, at all levels of the organization and that personnel operate in accordance with the system and procedures described herein. Senior management, as a minimum, will review this policy at the annual review meeting
Health and Safety policy statement
The management and personnel of this company fully accept that it has a responsibility for ensuring that health and safety at work is maintained at a high level and to approach the management of working practices in a way, which promotes safety in all aspects of our business; this includes risks to others, as far as reasonably practicable.
We are committed to identifying, assessing and controlling risks, which exist, at our site and to evaluating and monitoring the measures and safeguards that are introduced to counter any risks that are identified. This will be achieved through the process of risk assessment that applies to any nature of risk, from chemical hazards to work activities, from power sources to harmful emissions.
In controlling risks and introducing safeguards, we will prioritize the significant risks as major areas of activity expending such resources. As are warranted by the nature of the risk to eliminate, or at least effectively control that risk at source, using personal protective equipment only as a “last resort.”
We further recognise our responsibility to ensure welfare facilities are such that health and safety is not adversely affected, that we maintain all areas of working in a suitable condition for the tasks to be performed within them and all emergency situations are properly catered for and have sufficient resource to ensure effective protection of our workforce.
To achieve these goals, we fully recognize the invaluable resource of our people and are committed to training and developing them in line with our overall policy and specific work activities, using their input as a valuable source of hazard identification and risk control. In this way, each and every individual has a vital and specific role in maintaining our safety standard.
The effectiveness of this policy and its implementation will be monitored and this document will be reviewed on an annual basis.
Donnybrook Timber Frames is an independent Timber Frame Construction and Design specialist offering a high quality made to measure product to meet customers’ specific requirements. We were established in January 1989. Our roof trusses are manufactured in strict compliance with the relevant British Standards and Codes of Practice. The most up to date production methods, combined with computer aided design, enable us to achieve a very high standard of quality. In order to minimize its environmental impact Donnybrook Timber Frames shall meet or improve on current relevant legislation/ Regulation. Our main environmental impacts relate to the use; of large quantities of timber, use of electricity in the production process, fuel for the transport of goods and the production of waste. In recognising these impacts, Donnybrook Timber Frames through its commitment to pollution prevention and continual environmental improvement will:Ensure that the timber we use is sourced from Programme for the Endorsement of Certification Systems (PEFC) or Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) sources;Only use non-solvent wood treatment methods;Minimise, recover and recycle waste wherever possible. A large proportion of waste is currently recycled or reused including cardboard, plastic, sawdust, wood waste. Minimise the amount of energy used through the prudent use of resources, good housing keeping and maintenance of appliances;To help reduce vehicle mileage route planning is undertaken and loads are maximised; Rain water harvesting from the office building and used in the wood treatment process – approximately 12m3 of rainwater is harvested annually;Train and continually update all staff in environmental issues.
The Policy will be subject to annual review and will be communicated regularly to all staff and made available to all interested parties.
Donnybrook Timber Frames believe that its workforce is its biggest asset, in recognising this the company aims to develop and mentor any or all off its workforce to allow individuals to achieve their optimum productivity, allowing the company to grow and the individual to grow inside it, allowing individuals to profit from company expansion both personally and professionally It is the companies aim to invest 0.25% of turnover in training, with a 10% increase in turnover In order to achieve this goal the company will:1. Train individuals on entering the company to acceptable standards 2. Undertake twice yearly appraisals 3. Monitor abilities through achievement and customer feedback 4. Identify needs though appraisal 5. Mentor based on individuals current performance and personal objectives
In order to achieve this, the company will use trade associations, NVQ Training suppliers, in house knowledge base, and other outsourced suppliers for CPD or other relevant skill needs.
Sustainable Purchasing Statement
Sustainable Purchasing is an area that purchasers are increasingly becoming concerned about. Purchasers are looking at the implementation of a sensitive sustainable purchasing policy by working with suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of the goods and services used and improve the social aspects, whilst ensuring value for money is still maintained. Donnybrook Timber Frames recognizes that the purchasing decisions carry environmental implications and recognizes the need to procure goods and services in a sustainable manner. The aim of the Sustainable Purchasing Statement is to prompt staff involved in the procurement of goods and services to use environmental and social responsibility as a factor in their purchasing decisions. These Purchasing Cycles may assist purchasers to include environmental and social aspects into their purchasing. Staff involved in the procurement of goods and services should avoid using suppliers or purchasing products which are likely to:
i. endanger health ii. cause significant damage to the environment (e.g. by buying products that are not biodegradable or contain CFCs etc) iii. consume a disproportionate amount of energy (e.g. a battery requires 50% more energy to produce than it will ever give out in its life) iv. cause unnecessary waste v. use materials derived from threatened species or environments (e.g. tropical hardwoods) vi. involve the unnecessary use of or cruelty to animals vii. adversely affect other countries. viii. cause danger or hardship to employees due to poor working conditions, discrimination or poor health and safety ix. have a negative impact on the local economy or community in which the products are produced.
The following is a checklist for sustainable and environmentally friendlier purchasing: Is it essential that the product is bought? How efficiently will the product use resources during its lifetime and have the costs of operating been taken into consideration before purchase? How durable is the product? Is it rechargeable, repairable, refillable or reusable? Can the product be recycled at the end of its useful life? Are recycled materials used in the product? Is it made from properly managed, renewable resources? Is the product likely to emit toxic or polluting substances during its production, use or disposal? Is the product over packaged? Is the packaging made from recycled materials? Can the packaging be recycled after use or reused? Have the ‘whole life’ costs and impacts been considered when assessing equipment for purchase?Can suppliers who can demonstrate that they are committed to environmental improvements be favoured? Where items are of similar costs, can preference be given to those that are manufactured with a high re-cycled content? Can suppliers who can demonstrate that they are committed to anti discrimination (in areas such as age, sex, religious beliefs, disability etc) be favoured? Where suppliers manufacture the products overseas are the employees paid the minimum wage for the country? Where suppliers manufacture the products overseas can they demonstrate that they are committed to improving working conditions, working hours, minimum age for employment and employee welfare? Calculate your Carbon Emissions on the Carbon Neutral web site on your purchase of flights and vehicle travel. What is the Energy Efficiency of any electrical appliances (You should select Category A or B for products carrying an EC energy label)
Other areas where environmental aspects can be considered are: Light Bulbs - Energy saving light bulbs use 20% of the energy that normal light bulbs use.Refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, purchase only those items with Energy Efficiency or European Eco Label ratings of A or B When purchasing equipment, don't just buy the cheapest and then throw it away and buy a new one a year later, spend a little more on the initial outlay and get years more use from the equipment.
